As a gal with oily skin, I typically use a matte foundation. However, on days when I want to look glowy, but not oily, I use a dewy foundation with a mattifying powder. That way, the luminosity of the foundation can peak through the layer of powder. I’ve been on the hunt for a good dewy foundation for my oily skin for years now, and finally, I have found my perfect match with the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation!

CLAIMS
The Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation (US $5.99) is said to look like your skin, but better. The unique formulation was tested under seven various lighting conditions to give your skin a flawless camera-ready finish. The formula also contains a light-adjusting complex to prevent white-cast in photos. Finally, a matte, light-diffusing complex is used to create the perfect skin-like complexion.
This foundation is both cruelty-free and vegan and has a wide range of shades for all skin tones.
PACKAGING
The Photo Focus Foundation comes in a square glass bottle which allows you to see the shade of the foundation. To apply, twist the lid open and use the flat spatula wand to dab the foundation all over your face. I’m a huge fan of this packaging because my hands don’t need to contact the product during the application process.
This foundation contains 1.0 fl oz of product.
PRODUCT
When applied to the skin, this foundation doesn’t settle into any fine lines. It also doesn’t emphasize any texture or pores like some dewy foundations do. My skin immediately looks dewy without the company of stickiness that again, many glowy foundations tend to have. Now, if I skip the mattifying setting powder, I will get oily after about 2-3 hours of wear. However, if I set my face, I am left with oil-free and dewy skin for at least 5 hours before I start to notice any oils peak through.
Through trial and errors, I’ve noticed that the key to achieving a glowy complexion when you have oily skin is to make sure your dewy foundation dries and sets to a powder finish – the tacky finish I mentioned before is what makes the product slip and slide all over your face. If your foundation dries down to a powder finish, it is less likely to shift around throughout the day. Second tip is to always use a light or translucent mattifying setting powder and press the powder into the skin with a damp beauty sponge. This way, the powder is sheered out by the dampness of the sponge, allowing the luminosity of the foundation to peak through, but still retaining its mattifying properties to keep the oils at bay.
PRODUCTS THAT HELP WORK WELL WITH THIS FOUNDATION
The Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation offers a very natural coverage to the skin. If I’m looking for a more sheered out look, I would use a damp beauty sponge to press the foundation into the skin. A damp beauty sponge helps soak up the excess product, leaving a very natural finish to the skin.
If I’m wanting a fuller coverage, I use a denser foundation brush to buff the product into the skin. The density of the brush helps spread and pack on more product. However, I still do recommend going over your entire complexion with a slightly damp sponge afterwards to soak up any additional product left on the skin to avoid cake-face.
The Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation has got to be my favourite dewy-finish foundation of all-time. It performs so well with my combo-oily skin AND it’s super affordable and can be found at your local drugstore. I can’t wait to see how this performs during the cooler seasons when my skin is slightly less oily.
Now it’s your turn to let me know your thoughts on this foundation! Is this a product you have on your makeup wish list?
